Akin Euba

Akin Euba, born in 1935 in Nigeria, is a prominent composer, pianist, and musicologist known for his contributions to contemporary African music, particularly in the fusion of traditional African musical elements with Western classical music. He is a key figure in the genre of African art music, often referred to as "African classical music." Euba studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, and later at the University of Ghana, where he developed a unique style that incorporates African rhythmic structures and tonalities. Notable works include "The African Suite" and "Kakaki," which reflect his commitment to exploring African identity through music. He has also composed operas and choral works, such as "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya."
