Coolio, born Artis Leon Ivey Jr. on August 1, 1963, was an American rapper, actor, and record producer, best known for his contributions to hip-hop during the 1990s. He emerged from the West Coast rap scene and gained significant fame with his 1995 hit single "Gangsta's Paradise," featuring L.V. The song, which sampled Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise," became a cultural phenomenon, topping charts worldwide and winning a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. Coolio's debut album, *It Takes a Thief* (1994), included the popular track "Fantastic Voyage," which further solidified his presence in the genre. His unique blend of gangsta rap and melodic hooks appealed to a broad audience, helping to bring hip-hop into mainstream pop culture. Beyond music, Coolio made appearances in television and film, including a memorable role in the Nickelodeon series *Kenan & Kel*.
