Eyedea, born Micheal Larsen on November 9, 1981, was an influential American rapper and songwriter from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was associated with the underground hip-hop scene and is best known for his work in the genres of alternative hip-hop and battle rap. Eyedea gained prominence in the early 2000s, particularly after winning the Scribble Jam battle in 2000, which showcased his exceptional lyrical abilities and freestyle skills. His notable works include the albums "First Born" (2004), "The Many Faces of Oliver Hart" (2009), and "By the Throat" (2011), which he released under the name Eyedea & Abilities, collaborating with producer DJ Abilities. Eyedea’s music often explored complex themes, including existentialism, personal struggles, and social commentary, setting him apart from mainstream hip-hop artists. His impact on music extends beyond his discography; he inspired a generation of artists with his innovative approach to storytelling and his ability to blend various musical styles.
