GFriend

GFriend was a South Korean girl group formed by Source Music in 2015. The group consisted of six members: Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. They were known for their distinct sound, which combined elements of K-pop, pop, and dance music, often characterized by bright melodies and intricate choreography. GFriend gained significant popularity with their debut EP *Season of Glass* (2015), featuring the hit single “Glass Bead.” Their subsequent releases, particularly *LOL* (2016) and *The Awakening* (2017), solidified their status in the K-pop scene, with standout tracks like “Rough” and “Fingertip” showcasing their signature sound and impressive performance skills. The group was praised for their cohesive concept and powerful live performances, contributing to the "girl crush" trend in K-pop. GFriend's influence extended beyond music, as they often promoted themes of empowerment and youth. They won several awards, including the Best New Artist award at the 2016 Melon Music Awards. GFriend officially disbanded in May 2021, but their impact on the K-pop genre and the girl group landscape remains significant, inspiring future generations of artists.
