Japanese Breakfast is the solo project of Michelle Zauner, an American musician and author. Emerging from the indie pop scene, Zauner’s music blends elements of shoegaze, dream pop, and experimental pop, characterized by lush instrumentation and introspective lyrics. Her debut album, "Psychopomp," released in 2016, garnered critical acclaim for its exploration of grief following the death of her mother. The follow-up, "Soft Sounds from Another Planet" (2017), further established her sound and thematic depth. However, it was her third album, "Jubilee" (2021), that brought her widespread recognition, featuring a more upbeat and orchestral sound. "Jubilee" received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, solidifying her impact on the genre. In addition to her music, Zauner is also known for her memoir, "Crying in H Mart," which details her experiences with identity and loss, resonating with a broad audience.
