Mike Longo

Mike Longo (1939–2021) was an American jazz pianist, arranger, and educator known for his contributions to the jazz genre, particularly in the bebop and hard bop styles. A protégé of legendary trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, Longo's career spanned several decades, during which he released numerous albums and collaborated with prominent musicians. Notable works include "The New York Scene" (1966) and "Evolution" (1971), both showcasing his virtuosic piano skills and innovative compositions. He was also recognized for his work in the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, contributing to the ensemble's dynamic sound. Longo's impact extended beyond performance; he was a dedicated educator, teaching at various institutions, including the University of Miami and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York.
