Nirmala Mishra

Nirmala Mishra (1938-2020) was a renowned Indian playback singer, celebrated for her contributions to Odia music and cinema. Born in Cuttack, Odisha, she was a versatile artist whose career spanned over five decades, starting in the 1960s. Mishra specialized in various genres, including Odia folk, classical, and contemporary music, making her a beloved figure in regional Indian music. Among her notable works are numerous film songs for Odia movies, with some of her most famous tracks including “Suna Chadhei,” “Bai Bhai,” and “Rangabati.” Her rendition of "Rangabati," in particular, is iconic and has become a cultural emblem of Odisha. In addition to film music, she also excelled in devotional songs and Bhajans, showcasing her diverse vocal abilities.
