Ruth Laredo

Ruth Laredo (1936-2022) was an acclaimed American classical pianist renowned for her interpretations of the piano repertoire, particularly the works of composers like Frédéric Chopin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and American composer George Gershwin. Born in El Paso, Texas, Laredo began her piano studies at a young age and later pursued formal training at prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School. Laredo gained prominence in the 1970s, winning the prestigious Leventritt Competition in 1963, which propelled her career. Among her notable recordings are her interpretations of Rachmaninoff's concertos and the complete piano works of Chopin, which received critical acclaim for their emotional depth and technical precision. Her 1976 recording of Rachmaninoff’s "Piano Concerto No. 3" is particularly well-regarded.
