Shagrath

Shagrath, born Stian Tomt Thoresen on November 15, 1974, is a Norwegian musician best known as the lead vocalist and keyboardist of the black metal band Dimmu Borgir. Emerging in the early 1990s, Shagrath's work is characterized by a blend of symphonic elements and traditional black metal, contributing to the genre's evolution. Dimmu Borgir gained prominence with albums such as "Stormblåst" (1996), "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" (1997), and "Death Cult Armageddon" (2003). The latter featured orchestral arrangements and choirs, which helped elevate the band's profile internationally. Their 2001 album "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" received significant acclaim, showcasing Shagrath's distinctive vocal style and the band's grandiose sound. Shagrath's influence extends beyond Dimmu Borgir; he has collaborated with various artists and participated in projects like the supergroup "Chrome Division." His contributions to the black metal scene have helped shape its modern sound, merging aggressive musicality with theatrical presentation, which has inspired numerous bands within and outside the genre.
