Apocalyptica is a Finnish band formed in 1993, initially consisting of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Max Lilja, later joined by drummer Mikko Sirén. The band is renowned for its unique blend of classical music and heavy metal, often categorized as symphonic metal or cello metal. Their breakthrough album, "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" (1996), features classical arrangements of Metallica songs, gaining widespread acclaim and establishing their signature sound. Subsequent albums, such as "Inquisition Symphony" (2003) and "7th Symphony" (2010), further showcased their innovative style, incorporating original compositions and collaborations with various vocalists, including Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Till Lindemann of Rammstein.
